SURVEY + INFRASTRUCTURE + BUILDINGS + ENVIRONMENT
STATE GOVERNMENT
Outstanding in the field.
State government agencies know the value of bringing in SSM on the ground level. We've conducted environmental site assessments on brownfield properties for the Maryland Port Authority. Provided comprehensive land surveying and traffic engineering consulting for PennDOT. Assessed drinking water sources across the state for Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection's Source Water Protection Program (SWAP). When the DEP created the Source Water Protection Technical Assistance Program (SWPTAP), they partnered with SSM to help provide communities across the Commonwealth with the tools they need to better understand and protect their drinking water sources.
HIGHLIGHT PROJECTS
Assessed the existing condition of the timber-framed structure and provided structural engineering analysis and design to replace or reconstruct a portion of the Breaker.Assessed the existing condition of the timber-framed structure and provided structural engineering analysis and design to replace or reconstruct a portion of the Breaker.
Provided structural engineering for an approximately 15,000 square foot addition to the Student Union and Services Building at Lincoln University.
Our indoor air quality specialists provided asbestos management services for 8 historic steam engines and one passenger train car at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.
Performed a detailed mold inspection and sampling of the Virginia State Capitol Building prior to the initiation of construction and renovation of the building and replacement of the building ventilation systems.
SSM has supported several teams to serve in a multi-disciplinary way to the Department of Architecture and Preservation (DAP) of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) since 1995.

As part of an approved Source Water Protection Plan, SSM created a three-dimensional groundwater flow model to determine the direction and time-of-travel of groundwater entering the supply wells. Within one hour of receiving the information of the possible pipeline leak, SSM’s lead computer modeler was able to determine a predicted groundwater flow path that a contaminant would take upon entering the groundwater aquifer.
In conjunction with PADEP, SSM assists water systems in developing source water protection plans using GIS. Our professionals delineate protective zones around each well or surface water intake to show the areas that contribute to the drinking water supply, working closely with the water supplier and community representatives to identify ways of protecting these areas.
Performed environmental, health and safety services related to identification of specific environmental regulations applicable to the University.
