Story #30 - Lewis J. McCoy, Sr.
/Story #30 is an introduction to one of our founders, Lewis J. McCoy, Sr.
The story goes that Mr. McCoy started his individual engineering practice because “everyone deserves clean water”. He focused the firm on water and wastewater services to local governments until expanding and joining forces with Charlie Stevens and later, Walter Spotts.
Mr. McCoy graduated from Drexel University in 1957 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. A year later he earned an M.S. in Sanitary Engineering from Northwestern University. Mr. McCoy was a registered Professional Engineer (PE) and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers.
His list of memberships and affiliations is extensive, showing just how passionate he was about the field. Some of his memberships included: Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, Water Pollution Control Federation, American Water Works Association, and American Public Works Association. Mr. McCoy brought his passion and expertise to work everyday both as a leader in his field and a leader at SSM.
