Potable Water Transmission Pipeline Horizontal Directional Drilling
SSM designed 7,000 feet of 16” diameter potable water transmission pipeline to transport water from the Western Berks Water Authority Water Treatment facility to the Bern Township Municipal Authority. The project included 1,000 feet of horizontal directional drilling beneath a high quality stream and 6,000 feet of open cut installation using fused--joint PVC pipe. SSM prepared and obtained all necessary environmental permits, and coordinated utility conflicts with existing high pressure natural gas and petroleum pipelines along the project route. The design included special features to cope with the 170 psi delivery pressure of the water from the WBWA treatment facility.
